Team news: Barnes starts against Brighton in New Jersey

Harvey Barnes will make his full Newcastle United debut ahead of the Magpies' final Premier League Summer Series clash against Brighton & Hove Albion in New Jersey.

United take on Roberto De Zerbi’s side at the Red Bull Arena (kick-off 12.30am BST/7.30pm ET) and Eddie Howe has handed Barnes, who made his Magpies bow during a 3-3 draw against Aston Villa on Sunday, his maiden start for the club since arriving from Leicester City last week.

Nick Pope, who produced a strong second-half performance against Chelsea on his return from injury, is named in-between the sticks and will feature behind a four-man defence containing Harrison Ashby, also making his first Newcastle start this evening, as well as Jamaal Lascelles, Paul Dummett and Matt Targett.

Bruno Guimarães, who scored against Brighton during a 4-1 Premier League win at St. James’ Park in May, starts in the middle of the park alongside Elliot Anderson and Matt Ritchie while Jacob Murphy and Barnes will aim to provide attacking support on the respective right and left flanks for Callum Wilson.

Martin Dúbravka, who started against Chelsea on Thursday, is named on the bench as goalkeeping backup whilst 17-year-old midfielder Lewis Miley, who made his first senior start against the Blues at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, is available for Howe to deploy from the bench.

Alex Murphy, another youngster who impressed against Chelsea, is one of many youthful replacements with Jay Turner-Cooke, Ben Parkinson, Jamie Miley and Remi Savage also included on the bench.

Please note that the squad numbers worn by Howe's side are still subject to change ahead of the new campaign.

Substitutes: Martin Dúbravka, Alex Murphy, Remi Savage, Jay Turner-Cooke, Jamie Miley, Lewis Miley, Ben Parkinson.
