Team news: Lascelles and Wilson start at St. James'

Jamaal Lascelles and Callum Wilson both return for Newcastle United as the Magpies take on Tottenham Hotspur on a landmark day at St. James’ Park.

Skipper Lascelles hasn’t figured since United’s last home game, against Leeds exactly a month ago, while Wilson’s absence has been longer still, with last season’s Player of the Year and leading goalscorer having been out since the end of August.

The pair’s return provides a timely boost for a Newcastle side who were beaten 2-1 at Wolves last time out. Federico Fernández and Miguel Almirón, who played for Paraguay in Bolivia on Wednesday night, are the two players who make way.

Karl Darlow continues in goal, with Lascelles expected to join Ciaran Clark, Javier Manquillo and Matt Ritchie at the back. Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock make up the Magpies’ central midfield, with Wilson set to be supported by Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin in attack.

On the bench, there is a spot for Jonjo Shelvey, who finds himself back in contention after a lengthy spell on the sidelines of his own.

Newcastle United: Karl Darlow, Javier Manquillo, Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark, Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden, Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock, Joelinton, Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson.

Substitutes: Mark Gillespie, Jacob Murphy, Federico Fernández, Fabian Schär, Jamal Lewis, Jeff Hendrick, Jonjo Shelvey, Ryan Fraser, Dwight Gayle.
