United As One in focusing on diversity

Tuesday evening's Premier League game against Leeds United is the latest in which the club celebrate the work of United As One, with a focus on its work on diversity and particularly race and religion

Launched in April 2019, United As One is the Magpies' diversity, welfare and inclusion brand, with themed matchdays having taken place several times during the seasons since.

A number of initiatives aimed at ending discrimination and inequality in both football and society have been delivered over the past two years, including a Memory Café, Period Poverty campaign, Disability Passports and Sensory Backpacks - with work ongoing throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, all of the Magpies’ first team and Academy players have undertaken hate crime awareness training, supported by Northumbria Police and Kick It Out. Anonymised methods of reporting such crime - through a text line and website - have come into effect.

The club achieved the preliminary level of the Premier League Equality Standard in October 2019 and are now working towards the intermediate level, while continuing to work alongside Northumbria Police and Newcastle City Council to reduce hate crime in Newcastle as a whole.
