Willems' stunner at Anfield nominated for Premier League goal of the month

Written by Dan King

Jetro Willems' brilliant goal for Newcastle United at Liverpool has been shortlisted for the Premier League's Budweiser goal of the month award for September.

The Dutchman gave the Magpies the lead at Anfield as he cut in from the left, wrong-footing Trent Alexander-Arnold with a wonderful piece of skill, before arrowing the ball into the top corner with his weaker right foot.

And although United went on to lose 3-1 against the current league leaders, Willems' goal - his first in English football's top flight - has been nominated for the monthly prize.

Voting is now open here

Also shortlisted are Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori, for his long-range strike against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton's Moussa Djenepo, for a solo goal against Sheffield United, and Jeff Hendrick for his stoppage time equaliser for Burnley against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Leicester's James Maddison is nominated for his late winner against Tottenham, while West Ham United's Aaron Cresswell's goal against Manchester United is in contention for the award.

Liverpool wing-back Alexander-Arnold's goal against Chelsea and N'Golo Kanté's strike for the Blues against the Reds in the same game are also nominated.

The winner will be announced on Friday, 11th October.
