Wood named in New Zealand squad

Newcastle United forward Chris Wood has been named in the New Zealand squad for their upcoming fixtures against Jordan and Uzbekistan.

The 30-year-old, who joined the Magpies from Burnley earlier this month, is included in his country's 23-man squad ahead of the double-header which sees the All Whites warm-up for the conclusion of their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign in March.

Danny Hay's side face Jordan on Friday, 28th January at the New York University Stadium in Abu Dhabi before taking on Uzbekistan at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday, 1st February. Both friendlies will kick-off at 7pm local time (3pm GMT).

Wood has amassed 60 caps for New Zealand since making his debut in 2009, becoming the youngest player to captain his nation in 2014.

He is their fifth most-capped player of all time and second in their list of leading goalscorers – just two goals shy of Vaughan Coveny’s record of 29.
