Jay Turner-Cooke

Position:
Midfielder

Turner-Cooke arrived at Newcastle's Academy in January 2021, signing from local rivals Sunderland.

Born in South Shields, the attacking midfielder made his debut for Newcastle's under-21 side during a Papa John's Trophy clash against Sheffield Wednesday in front of over 6,500 spectators at Hillsborough.

Capable of playing on the wing as well as in a central attacking role, Turner-Cooke netted his first goal at second-string level in a 2-1 comeback win against former club Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The creative youngster went on to register 11 goals for United's under-21s squad during the 2021/22 campaign and travelled with Newcastle's first-team squad to the Etihad Stadium for the Magpies' Premier League clash against Manchester City in May 2022.

Jay made his first-team bow for Newcastle in the Magpies' 5-0 win against Al Hilal in December 2022 before making his professional debut on loan at League Two side Tranmere Rovers during the latter stages of the 2022/23 campaign.

The youngster signed a two-year contract extension with the Magpies in February 2023 and scored his first senior goal for Eddie Howe's side during a 3-2 pre-season victory against Gateshead, netting the winning strike at the Gateshead International Stadium.

After spending the first half of the 2023/24 season on loan with St Johnstone, Turner-Cooke returned to Tyneside for the second half of the campaign.
