Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.

Mesut Ozil scores the only goal of the game to guide Arsenal to a narrow victory over Newcastle this afternoon. The win ends the Gunners' three-game stretch with a victory in the Premier League, although Arsene Wenger's men were far from their best. The Magpies pushed for a leveller, but lacked the quality in the final third to salvage a point. Rafael Benitez's men have lost eight out of their last nine games and heading towards the relegation zone.

84'

Arsenal are looking fragile all over the pitch at the moment. Newcastle are growing in confidence and will feel that they can snatch a point here.

82'

WIDE! Perez again! Ritchie swings a cross to the back post for Perez to attack. The Spaniard gets above his compatriot Bellerin and powers a header at goal, but his accuracy is off, guiding his attempt wide of the post.

82'

Substitution Mikel Merino Zazón Mohamed Diamé

80'

OVER! Perez latches on the ball on the left flank, but he can only fire over the bar. Newcastle are putting the pressure on now.

79'

WIDE! Newcastle are inches away from an equaliser as Gayle tees up Joselu for a strike on the edge of the box. The Spaniard fires at goal and Koscielny makes the block. The deflection takes the ball inches past the post.

76'

Ritchie wastes a Newcastle free-kick as he tries to go for goal from distance, but he blasts his effort harmlessly wide of the post.

75'

Koscielny rises from a cross into the box and makes skimming contact with his effort. His header was always heading wide, but Sanchez on the stretch just cannot reach at the back post.

74'

SAVE! Wilshere is denied by Elliot. Giroud did well to knock Sanchez's cross back into the middle and the midfielder powered his effort towards goal, only to be denied by a good reaction stop.

73'

Substitution Alexandre Lacazette Olivier Giroud

72'

Substitution Alex Iwobi Daniel Nii Tackie Mensah Welbeck

70'

Bellerin slides a fine throughball to Ozil, who in turn attempts to pick out Lacazette in the right inside channel, but the German overhits his pass out for a goal-kick.

68'

Bellerin releases Lacazette down the right flank, but once again the Frenchman's final decision is poor as he plays the ball straight to Hayden.

67'

Substitution Jacob Murphy Dwight Gayle

67'

Bellerin makes an important tackle on the slide stopping Joselu's throughball from reaching Murphy on the left flank.

65'

Iwobi shows quick feet after collecting Ozil's pass, but he can only muster a tame effort at goal, allowing Elliot to save with ease.

63'

Arsenal are stringing passes together on the edge of the Newcastle box, but are searching for the clinical moment to secure the second goal.

61'

Ozil lifts a corner in from the right flank and Iwobi with his back to goal tries an audacious overhead effort, but he can only send his strike over the bar.

59'

CHANCE! Lacazette spurns a glorious chance to double his side's lead. Monreal's battling header allows Ozil to release the Frenchman into the right inside channel. However, he gets too cute with his effort as he tries to lob Elliot, but sends the ball off target over the bar.

57'

SAVE! Newcastle break down the left through Murphy, who gets the better of Bellerin as he cuts back on to his right foot. The winger fires a low effort at goal, but Cech makes the save and pushes the ball away from the net.

56'

OVER! Ritchie collects a loose ball on the edge of the box and has space and time to pick his spot with a strike, only to blast his effort well over the bar.

54'

Lacazette collects in the box and he turns Lascelles to open up space for a strike, only to blast his effort well over the bar.

54'

Substitution Christian Atsu Twasam Matt Ritchie

52'

Iwobi tries to weave his way through the Newcastle defence and has a slight bit of fortune as Yedlin's attempt at a tackle sees the ball whack off the midfielder's shin and head towards the bottom corner. Elliott makes the save, but does not gather the ball. However, the Newcastle keeper sweeps the ball away from Iwobi before he can pounce.

50'

Newcastle clear their lines and Murphy carries the ball forward down the left, only to see his cross blocked by Bellerin. The Magpies have offered next to nothing in the final third.

49'

Yedlin almost prods the ball towards his own goal in his attempt to tackle Sanchez. Arsenal have a corner on the left flank.

48'

Arsenal probe down the left flank in the early stages of the half through Sanchez and Wilshere, but the Magpies keep them bay for now.

46'

We're back underway at the Emirates Stadium.

Mesut Ozil's special strike has handed Arsenal the lead at the break against Newcastle. The Gunners have not been at their fluent best in the final third, but the German put them ahead by powering a volley into the top corner following a poor clearance from Florian Lejeune. Newcastle have tried to offfer a threat in the final third by committing men forward when possible, with their closest effort Jamaal Lascelles' header from distance. It's not looking overly encouraging for Benitez's men.

STAT ATTACK! Arsene Wenger’s side haven’t lost back to back home Premier League games in the same season since November 2010, with one of those defeats coming against Newcastle.

STAT ATTACK! Newcastle have lost their last five Premier League visits to Arsenal – however, their last victory there came in November 2010 when they were newly promoted.

STAT ATTACK! Arsenal have won each of their last nine Premier League games against Newcastle, scoring 22 goals and conceding just six.

FLASHBACK! Laurent Koscielny scored the only goal of the game in the last meeting to hand the Gunners a narrow victory in this fixture in January 2016.

Benitez has rung the changes for Newcastle this afternoon following their defeat at the hands of Everton during the week. Following his mistake for Wayne Rooney's goal Karl Darlow is replaced between the sticks by Rob Elliot. Ayoze Perez, Jacob Murphy, Issac Hayden and Joselu also return to the line-up.

Despite his side's failure to beat West Ham, Wenger has made just one change to his starting line-up from the fixture. Alexander Lacazette is recalled to start ahead of Olivier Giroud. Jack Wilshere retains his place in the midfield alongside Granit Xhaka, starting his second Premier League game on the bounce.

Newcastle subs: Clark, Dummett, Gayle, Diame, Ritchie, Aarons, Darlow.

NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1): Elliot; Yedlin, Lascelles, Lejeune, Manquillo; Hayden, Merino; Atsu, Perez, Murphy; Joselu.

Arsenal subs: Giroud, Ospina, Chambers, Welbeck, Kolasinac, Coquelin, Elneny.

ARSENAL (4-2-3-1): Cech; Bellerin, Koscielny, Monreal, Maitland-Niles; Wilshere, Xhaka; Iwobi, Ozil, Sanchez; Lacazette.

The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.

Newcastle have dropped worryingly close to the relegation zone, having lost seven out of their last eight matches. The one draw in that period came at The Hawthorns when Rafa Benitez's men came from behind to earn a point. However, since then they've suffered three defeats on the bounce, including back-to-back home losses to Leicester and Everton. The Magpies need to stem the tide somehow.

The Gunners are on a three-match winless run in the Premier League, having been frustrated by West Ham during the week. Arsene Wenger's men dominated possession against the Hammers, but could not find the breakthrough. The result followed poor performaces against Manchester United and Southampton - when a late Olivier Giroud strike was needed to avoid defeat. Arsenal have a good opportunity to get back to winning ways this afternoon, with struggling Newcastle coming into town.

Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Newcastle at the Emirates Stadium.
