Bournemouth have had the chance to win this. Wilson and Pugh should have both scored in this half and whilst a draw away at Newcastle isn't a bad result, it could have been so much better.

CLOSE! How didn't that go in!? Pugh weaves his way through the defence and has a close range effort saved from Elliot, which then comes back off the post. 

I think we should have a rule that players in this game aren't allowed to shoot outside of the area. Arter tries from distance and any low flying aircraft in Tyneside need to be careful.

Seven minutes to go and it this stage it feels like we're all being punished. The final whistle will be welcomed.

Dangerous break for Newcastle and Ake gets a crucial boot on the ball. It's behind for a corner but we'll see the final Newcastle change first.

Late winner from Defoe anyone? I'm sure that would go down a treat on Tyneside.

CHANCE! Newcastle have certainly had the chances to win this. Bournemouth again sloppily give the ball away but Atsu can't hit the target with his drive from outside the area.

Shelvey fouls Ake and gives Bournemouth a free-kick in a very dangerous position. It comes to nothing though, obviously, because this game refuses to give us excitement.

Jermain Defoe is warming up for Bournemouth, I imagine he'll receive a very warm reception.

Corner for Bournemouth as Ibe's shot is blocked. Low and behold, it's easily dealt with and Newcastle get it away.

That attack there sums up this game. Bournemouth push forward with intent, Pugh picks the ball up in a dangerous area and cuts onto his right. He strikes for goal and only manages to threaten the corner flag.

Very poor advert for the Premier League here as there's not much happening at all. I imagine the highlights packages this evening will be very brief.

That decision was certainly controversial and it's sparked life into the supporters at St. James' Park, who are making their feelings known. They've been quiet today but, to be fair, there's been nothing to get excited about.

SAVE! Elliot called into action again, diving to catch a header towards goal from Pugh. Another crucial save.

This is definitely a game that can be decided with one goal and it would be a crucial win for either side. As I said though, it's there for Bournemouth to take if they shape up.

Corner for Newcastle, as Shelvey's cross is blocked behind. He steps up to take the set-piece and Bournemouth are scrappy defensively but it's dealt with in the end. Once again, Newcastle look extremely blunt.

Bournemouth may be encouraged following Lascelles' departure and the game is there for the Cherries to take, if they step things up in the final third.

Big concerns for Newcastle here as Lascelles is down for the second time of the match and he won't be able to continue.

CHANCE! Biggest opportunity of the game and it falls to Bournemouth, as King feeds Wilson through and he had the goal at his mercy. A goal seemed certain but he could only strike into the side netting.

Any potential buyers for Newcastle watching this better start drafting up some funds for January, as big improvements are needed in front of goal.

SAVE! Corner from the far side comes deep to Joselu on the far post, which is clawed over the crossbar by Begovic, and the second corner is collected in the air by the Bournemouth stopper.

The way things have gone in this game, I can't imagine it will be too long until we see some changes. Mitrovic and Perez would probably be the men the Magpies look to, whereas Bournemouth have the likes of Defoe and Lewis Cook.

Early free-kick is pumped into the box by Shelvey and Begovic is quick off his line to punch the ball away. It doesn't go too far, although the Cherries soon have a goal kick.

KICK-OFF! We're underway for the second half, with Newcastle now kicking to the right. Hopefully there's more excitement this half.

Gayle concedes a foul on Arter, when it looked like Newcastle could break, and we have one minute added on.

Daniels surges forward from the back and tries his luck at goal but he only threatens those in the upper tier at St. James' Park.

It's actually a strange game. Newcastle have the build-up play, but lack the cutting edge in front of goal, whereas Bournemouth's attacking duo look threatening but haven't been in the game enough.

A decent period in attack for Bournemouth then but we still await the opening goal of the match. Both sides look relatively blunt in attack so, as yet, it's not clear how the deadlock will be broken.

SAVE! Another big save from Elliot, with Newcastle down to ten men as Lascelles receives treatment, and King does excellently to hold off the defender and strikes towards the near post where the Magpies stopper saves and crucially remains in control of the ball, preventing Wilson from having a tap-in.

CHANCE! Almost the opening goal against the run of play, as Francis clips a cross into the area to where Pugh lofts a header towards goal and requires Elliot to tip the ball over the bar. 

Bournemouth again sloppy in possession, with Cook tackled by Gayle, but Hayden's shot from distance doesn't threaten Begovic.

Bournemouth immediately push forward but Ibe's low cross into the area is easily collected by Elliot, who has had a comfortable game so far.

Newcastle still getting forward with attacking presence but their final ball still isn't quite right, with Gayle in the area seeing a weak shot blocked.

Bournemouth do look dangerous when they get the ball forward quickly and King surges forward, dragging a shot wide of the target. There are signs of promise from the visitors but their set-up isn't working too well.

Bournemouth have a corner, give it away easily but get it back from Shelvey. A deep cross then runs out of play and it's another blunt end to an attack from the visitors.

Another chance for Newcastle, again with Bournemouth sloppily giving the ball away. Joselu takes the shot but it drags well wide of the target. Alarm bells ringing for the Cherries though.

CHANCE! Newcastle again on the attack, as Atsu latches onto a long ball forward and cuts inside onto his right foot, seeing an effort blocked behind Cook. The Magpies go short from the corner and Bournemouth get the ball away when the cross comes in.

First real positive move for Bournemouth sees them break with the referee playing the advantage but Yedlin got a touch on Ibe's ball, preventing Surman from latching onto it in a very good position.

Bournemouth are putting thmselves under a lot of pressure by trying to pass the ball out of defence and there's not enough support for Wilson and King when they do manage to work their way into the final third.

Shelvey strikes a wayward effort well over the bar but it continues the dominant period for Newcastle, with an opening goal for the hosts now seeming inevitable. Bournemouth, unfortunately, haven't been able to get going properly.

Excellent strike from Ritchie, who was extremely unfortunate not to find the bottom corner of the post, but the offside decision was correct as Gayle was inches ahead of the defender.

OFFSIDE! Gayle has the ball in the back of the net, tapping home after Ritchie curls for goal and sees his attempt bounce back off the post.

SAVE! Begovic again forced into action as he dives to palm a ferocious effort from Atsu behind. Bournemouth deal with the resulting corner but the early signs have been positive for Newcastle.

It was a poor header from Gayle, in truth, who should have scored from that position. 

CHANCE! Glorious opportunity for Newcastle to take the lead as Gayle, yet to score in the Premier League this season, rises to get on the end of the cross from Ritchie and sees his header blocked just in front of goal by Cook. 

With Wilson and King up front, Bournemouth have plenty of pace in attack but the former can't beat Lejeune out wide on the near side.

Bournemouth are trying to play the sort of football that Eddie Howe has become known for but the Cherries are yet to hit full gear, as Wilson is flagged offside.

Newcastle moving the ball around impressively and quickly winning the ball back when Bournemouth come at them. Atsu tries an early cross into the area, which Begovic easily collects.

SAVE! Ritchie has the games first sight at goal, firing a long effort at goal that is expertly tipped around the post by Begovic, and the following corner comes to nothing.

Shelvery sloppily gives the ball away in midfield and it allows Bournemouth to break. Ibe gets the ball inside the 18-yard box after receiving the ball from Wilson, winning a corner which is taken short and then easily dealt with.

Newcastle, interestingly, have switched to a formation with one striker today and have started very well here. Joselu flicks the ball on but Begovic easily clutches onto the ball.
