We're underway again at the Liberty Stadium.

It's goalless at the break at the Liberty Stadium. Both sides have had good chances, with the best arguably falling to Newcastle. Joselu came within inches of breaking the deadlock, only to be denied by an outstanding save from Lukas Fabianski. At the other end Jordan Ayew saw his shot well stopped by Rob Elliot before Alfie Mawson headed wide of the post. It has been a frenetic game and there should be more drama to come in the second half.

46'

First Half ends, Swansea City 0, Newcastle United 0.

46'

Corner, Swansea City. Conceded by Jamaal Lascelles.

46'

SHOT! Hayden tries to place an effort on target at the end of the half, but he fires straight at Fabianski.

44'

Foul by Renato Sanches (Swansea City).

42'

Attempt blocked. Jordan Ayew (Swansea City) right footed shot from the centre of the box is blocked.

39'

CHANCE! Mawson latches on to Olsson's delivery from the left and heads towards goal, but he puts his header inches past the post. Swansea should be ahead there.

38'

SAVE! Elliot's turn to make an important save as Ayew collects possession following a mistake by Hayden. He drills the ball towards the net, but the Newcastle keeper gets across to his right to divert the ball past the post.

36'

Newcastle keep the pressure on as Joselu latches on to a cross from the right, but can only direct his tame header straight at Fabianski.

35'

PENALTY SHOUT! Merino flings himself down in the box under the challenge of Mawson and the visitors appeal for a penalty. Referee Jones dismisses the claims and replays prove it was the right decision as the midfielder went down under no contact.

34'

SAVE! Fabianski makes a great save to deny Joselu. Ritchie whipped the ball in from the left flank and the Spaniard got the march on Mawson to glance a header towards the bottom corner, but at full stretch Fabianski was able to palm the ball past the post. A super stop from the Pole.

33'

Newcastle break forward in numbers and catch the Swans short at the back, and Murphy's low cross is diverted behind by Fernandez.

31'

Abraham goes down in a heap under the challenge of Clark and has to appeal to the referee to get the decision, which he eventually receives.

30'

OVER! Joselu latches on to a loose ball 25 yards from goal and fires at goal on the half-volley, but he sends his effort over the bar. Not a bad effort from the Spaniard.

28'

Merino and Sanches collide in the middle of the park, but after both receive treatment they're ok to continue.

27'

CHANCE! Fernandez misjudges a long ball over the top and heads the ball straight to Murphy. The forward tries to take the ball straight out of the sky on a volley, but he blasts his effort over the bar.

26'

Merino tries to bring the Magpies upfield, but is brought down by Fer from behind. The Dutchman avoids a booking as he gets a foot on the ball.

25'

Hayden clears away Olsson's free-kick at the near post, while Sanches' cross on the follow-up is cleared away by Clark.

24'

Olsson goes on the charge down the left flank and gets to the corner before being brought down by a loose challenge from Manquillo.

22'

Abraham and Manquillo tussle for the ball at the back post from Naughton's cross, but the referee awards a free-kick to the Magpies.

20'

Newcastle seem content to put 10 men behind the ball and allow the Swans to knock the ball around in their half. The pressure comes in the final third where the visitors have been very disciplined.

17'

Murphy tries to break behind Fernandez down the left flank, but the defender holds his ground and wins a goal-kick for his team. The home fans are not impressed by the Newcastle winger's attempt to earn a free-kick.

17'

Sanches collects in space on the right flank and he whips the ball into the box, but Elliot claims above Fer and Abraham.

15'

The possession has been there for the home side in the early stages of the contest, but not the penetration Clement will have desired in the final third.

13'

Sanches finds space in the final third and he tries to slip a pass through to Abraham, but Lascelles makes the interception on the edge of the box.

11'

The Swans are attempting to establish a rhythm in their passing game, but the visitors are maintaining their positional discipline thus far.

9'

Ayew skips past the challenge of Gamez and fires a low cross into the box, but Clark is there to clear the danger.

8'

Mawson has to stretch to head away Merino's lofted pass as Joselu was inches behind him aiming to capitalise.

8'

Yellow card Isaac Hayden

7'

A frenetic start to the game as both sides have come out full of energy, although the wet surface is making life tough on the players.

5'

SHOT! Newcastle seize on a loose pass from Sanches and Joselu drives at goal. His effort is blocked, but is gathered by Hayden, who shoots from inside the box. However, he can only drill his shot straight at Fabianski.

4'

Abraham collects from the right flank and tries to turn Lascelles through the middle, but the defender stands up the challenge.

3'

Carroll takes the free-kick, but curls his effort harmlessly over the bar. A waste from the midfielder.

2'

Swansea put the pressure on the Magpies at the back and Fer's pressing yields a free-kick as Merino brings him down.

We're underway at the Liberty Stadium.

The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.

FLASHBACK! Swansea beat Newcastle 2-0 in their last clash at the Liberty Stadium in August 2015. Goals from Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew secured the win for the Swans as Daryl Janmaat saw red for the Magpies.

Newcastle have made two changes from their win over West Ham. Jesus Gamez makes his first start of the season to replace Chancel Mbemba at left-back, while Christian Atsu drops to the bench as Jacob Murphy comes into the starting line-up.

Swansea have made one change from their win over Palace last time out. Clement has altered his system to accomodate Sanches in the side to make his debut. The Portuguese replaces Mike van der Hoorn in the team as the Swans shift to a four-man backline and a diamond-shape in midfield.

Newcastle subs: Shelvey, Gayle, Diame, Lejuene, Yedlin, Atsu, Woodman.

NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1): Elliot; Manquillo, Lascelles, Clark, Gamez; Hayden, Merino; Murphy, Perez, Ritchie; Joselu.

Swansea subs: Bony, Van der Hoorn, Narsingh, Nordtfelt, Routledge, Rangel, Mesa.

SWANSEA (4-3-1-2): Fabianski; Naughton, Fernandez, Mawson, Olsson; Clucas, Sanches, Carroll; Fer; Ayew, Abraham.

The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.

Benitez will be missing from the sideline as he recovers from a hernia operation and a resulting infection. Assistant manager Francisco de Míguel Moreno - Paco - will take charge of the club this afternoon.

Newcastle earned a vital win against West Ham last time out to take the pressure off after losing their opening two matches of the campaign. Rafa Benitez made no secret of his displeasure with the club's business in the transfer window or lack thereof. Contests like today will be telling in whether the club has enough talent to remain in the Premier League.

Swansea arguably pulled out one of the biggest coups of the transfer window by signing Renato Sanches on loan from Bayern Munich. He will be pressed to fill the void left by Gylfi Sigurdsson. Should the Portuguese deliver on his potential then he could thrive for the Swans this season.

Swansea have had a steady start to the season, taking four points from their opening three games. Paul Clement's men beat Crystal Palace last time in a 2-0 victory at Selhurst Park. Tammy Abraham and Jordan Ayew notched the goals and both men will be aiming to keep on firing amid the arrival of Wilfried Bony to bolster the frontline.

Lineups are announced and players are warming up.
