Paul Dummett's loan spell with Gateshead came to an end following Saturday's home game over Telford - but the Welsh under-21 international defender signed off on a high with a comfortable win and a clean sheet.
A 3-0 success at the International Stadium against Telford, in which Dummett played the full game, was a fitting send-off for the left-back, who has played most of his football for the Blue Square Bet Premier side at centre-half.
Prior to the the 20-year-old's arrival on loan from Newcastle in March, the Heed had been leaking goals and had failed to keep a clean sheet in 11 games.
But on Dummett's debut, a 2-0 home success against Hayes and Yeading, his influence was clear and in his ten games for Ian Bogie's side, they have kept six clean sheets - including shut-outs in each of their last two matches after they drew 0-0 against Luton in midweek.
Josh Gillies, Liam Hatch and ex-United youngster Kris Gate got the goals but the Tynesiders missed out on the play-offs, finishing the season in eighth place.
In League One, Sheffield Wednesday still have a chance of automatic promotion after a vital 2-1 win at Brentford.
Nile Ranger played the whole 90 minutes as Keith Treacy gave the Owls the lead and Miguel Angel Llera getting the winner either side of a Clayton Donaldson penalty.
And MK Dons picked up a win at relegated Rochdale, but Alan Smith was an unused substitute.
