Former Reserve team captain Patrick McLaughlin has signed a two-year deal with ambitious Blue Square Premier side York City.
Northern Ireland under-21 midfielder McLaughlin was freed by Newcastle this summer, with his last act in a black and white shirt being to lift the Sage Northumberland FA Senior Cup at St. James' Park in May following a 4-0 win over Blyth.
And he has now become the Minstermen's ninth signing of the close season, with manager Gary Mills looking to benefit from the Larne-born youngster's tough-tackling style and his composure on the ball.
The 20-year-old told York City's official website: "I'm grateful to the gaffer for giving me the chance to come here and play.
"At this stage of my career now I need first team games so to have that opportunity to come here and play games when we're going for promotion is really exciting. I'm really looking forward to it."
McLaughlin joins Dan Leadbitter in finding a new club following his depature from St. James' Park. Defender Leadbitter joined League Two Torquay earlier this week.
