In pictures: Newcastle United Women's historic day at St. James' Park
History was made on Sunday as Newcastle United Women played at St. James' Park for the first time - and a fantastic crowd of 22,134 came to see it.
It was the largest crowd for a women's league match in England this season, despite the Lady Magpies playing in female football's fourth tier, three levels below the Women's Super League.
Becky Langley's side still harboured hopes of promotion from the FA Women's National League Division One North, but narrowly missed out on the title to Liverpool Feds despite an excellent 4-0 victory over Alnwick Town Ladies.
Leading scorer Katie Barker opened the scoring before captain Brooke Cochrane got her first of the season from the penalty spot before half time.
A superb solo goal from Georgia Gibson made it 3-0 before Beth Guy rounded off the scoring with another spot-kick, with the supporters - including co-owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi and men's first team head coach Eddie Howe - thoroughly entertained throughout.
And a memorable day was capped off when long-serving skipper Cochrane, who has announced that she is retiring the end of the campaign, was presented with a framed, signed shirt by her team-mates. It was some way to bow out. Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
