Loan Watch: Assist for White in Pools' comeback win

Joe White provided an assist on his league debut for Hartlepool United, helping Graeme Lee’s side come from behind to beat Barrow on Tuesday night.

Magpies youngster White joined Pools on loan until the end of the season last month, and made his professional bow as a substitute during their 2-0 FA Cup defeat at Premier League outfit Crystal Palace last weekend.

But the 19-year-old was handed his first start in League Two for the midweek clash, which started badly for the hosts at Victoria Park as John Rooney’s stunning long-range effort sailed over goalkeeper Ben Killip and into the net to give Barrow the lead.

White then made his mark, laying on an equaliser for Luke Molyneux before the half hour, before former Newcastle full back Jamie Sterry set up Molyneux to put his side in front with his second of the night six minutes prior to the break.

Omar Bogle then left the visitors with a sizeable task when he struck to make it 3-1 and complete the scoring on the stroke of half time, with White impressing during his 82 minutes on the field before he was replaced by Mark Shelton.

Fellow midfielder Elliot Anderson endured a less enjoyable evening, as his Bristol Rovers side lost 2-1 at struggling Oldham Athletic.

Anderson played 74 minutes for Joey Barton’s side, who stay in 14th place in League Two.

A handful of Magpies were unused substitutes for their respective loan sides in midweek, with Matty Longstaff watching on as Mansfield Town beat Colchester United 2-1 in the fourth tier.

In League One, Matt Bondswell was unused in Shrewsbury Town’s goalless draw with Wycombe, who didn’t include Jack Young in their squad.

And Kell Watts wasn’t called upon from the sidelines at Hillsborough as his Wigan team lost 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday.
