Loan watch: Four debuts

Written by Dan King

Four players made their debuts for their new loan clubs on Saturday - including teenager Joe White, who made the first competitive appearance of his career.

The 19-year-old - who has been an unused substitute for the Magpies on a handful of occasions without making his bow - came on as a 60th-minute substitute for Hartlepool United in their 2-0 Emirates FA Cup fourth round defeat at Crystal Palace.

Pools had a mountain to climb after conceding twice inside the opening 22 minutes, but performed admirably after that and it was a particularly proud day for White, who joined Newcastle's League Two neighbours for the rest of the season at the end of last month.

Only a few miles away, Elliot Anderson came off the bench to make his first appearance for Bristol Rovers at Sutton United, having signed for Joey Barton's side on a temporary basis on transfer deadline day.

Anderson entered the fray in the 57th minute of the League Two clash with his side 1-0 down and helped to inspire them to an equaliser with five minutes remaining. The 19-year-old has played twice for Newcastle at senior level.

Meanwhile, Jeff Hendrick made his debut for Queens Park Rangers in their 2-0 FA Cup defeat at Peterborough United. The Republic of Ireland midfielder came on at half time, but Mark Warburton's side - who are currently fourth in the Championship - will now have to focus on the league for the remainder of the campaign.

So too will AFC Bournemouth, who were knocked out by non-league Boreham Wood on Sunday evening. Freddie Woodman made his Cherries bow in goal, but was beaten by the only goal of the game, scored by Mark Ricketts, in the 38th minute.

Matt Bondswell was an unused substitute for Shrewsbury Town as they drew 1-1 with Fleetwood Town while Oisín McEntee played the whole game as Greenock Morton beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 1-0 in the Scottish Championship.
