Loan Watch: Lejeune helps Alavés record shut-out

Florian Lejeune helped Alavés keep a clean sheet at the weekend, as he lined up in defence during their goalless draw at home to Getafe on Saturday.

The on-loan Newcastle United centre half, who will spend the entire campaign with the La Liga outfit, played the full game for Babazorros, picking up a yellow card with quarter of an hour remaining.

But Lejeune held firm to deny their opponents and record a shut-out on what was his second appearance for the club as well as his home debut.

Back in England, goalkeeper Freddie Woodman also kept a clean sheet as his Swansea City side earned a comfortable 2-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Goals from Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe swung the Championship match in the Swans’ favour, with Steve Cooper’s side now up to third in the table.

Elsewhere in the lower leagues, Tom Allan was replaced at half time during Accrington Stanley’s 4-1 defeat to Oxford United, with Mo Sangare not included in the matchday squad.

And also in League One, defender Kell Watts played the full 90 minutes for Plymouth Argyle as two first half strikes were exchanged between Ryan Lowe’s men and Shrewsbury Town, with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

In League Two, it was an eventful afternoon for Morecambe goalkeeper Jake Turner, who returned to the Shrimps’ line-up for their game against Southend United after missing Wednesday’s 7-0 defeat to his parent club Newcastle.

And his return helped Derek Adams’ side record a 2-1 win at Roots Hall - despite former Magpies defender Liam Gibson heading in an own goal just five minutes into his debut.

There was also a brief substitute outing for Yoshinori Muto over the weekend, as the Japanese international came on as a last-minute substitute in Eibar’s 2-1 La Liga defeat to Athletic Bilbao.
