Loan Watch: Sørensen strikes again

Elias Sørensen continued his encouraging start to his loan spell at Almere City on Friday, scoring his second goal in as many weeks.

The Danish frontman, who is on loan at the Eerste Divisie side until the end of the campaign, started for the league leaders at Ajax II, and just two minutes into the contest he played a part in the build-up as Neraysho Kasanwirjo’s own goal gave them the lead.

Sørensen’s right-footed finish gave his side a 3-0 lead on 25 minutes and, though he was replaced by Mees Kaandorp with quarter of an hour remaining, Almere sealed a 4-1 win which keeps them top of the second tier.

It was the 21-year-old’s second strike for his loan side, after he netted his first senior goal against NAC Breda last week.

It was good weekend for two Magpies goalkeepers as well, as Freddie Woodman kept a clean sheet for Swansea City in their 2-0 home win over Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.

The victory keeps Steve Cooper’s side in an automatic promotion spot, with Woodman securing his fifth clean sheet in just eight league games so far this term.

And another custodian, Jake Turner, recorded a shut-out on Saturday, helping Morecambe win 1-0 at Tranmere Rovers in League Two.

Turner kept out Rovers, who sacked manager Mike Jackson following the defeat. Another young Magpie, Jack Young, wasn’t part of the Tranmere squad.

In Spain, Florian Lejeune’s good form continued, as he played 90 minutes of Alaves’ 1-1 draw with Barcelona.

That was the Frenchman’s seventh La Liga outing, while Yoshinori Muto made a late substitute appearance during the final ten minutes of Eibar’s 2-0 defeat to Cadiz.

And in the National League, full back Lewis Cass suffered his first loss with loan club Hartlepool United, as he played the entirety of their 5-0 home defeat to Torquay United.

Tom Allan and Mo Sangare both missed out on a run-out due to Accrington Stanley’s postponed League One game against Plymouth Argyle, which denied the duo a chance to face Kell Watts, who would likely have been in the visitors’ line-up.
