Team news: Schär starts at Selhurst Park

Fabian Schär returns to the Newcastle United starting 11 for Saturday’s Premier League clash at Crystal Palace (3pm kick-off).

The Swiss centre half come back into the side in place of Ciaran Clark, who suffered an ankle injury in last Sunday’s defeat at Arsenal, meaning the only change head coach Steve Bruce has made to his line-up is an enforced one.

Martin Dúbravka continues in goal as United seek a first league win at Selhurst Park since 2013, with Valentino Lazaro and Danny Rose in the right and left wing-back positions respectively.

Schär starts in central defence alongside captain Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernández, while Nabil Bentaleb again partners Sean Longstaff in the middle of the park.

And Joelinton, who had been a doubt with a thigh problem, is fit enough to lead the line. The Brazilian frontman will have support from Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almirón out wide.

The Magpies’ bench is a strong one, with former Palace striker Dwight Gayle – who returned from injury this week – named among the substitutes.

Matt Ritchie, Florian Lejeune and Isaac Hayden are also among the Newcastle replacements, along with Karl Darlow, DeAndre Yedlin and Matty Longstaff.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune, Isaac Hayden, Matty Longstaff, Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle.
