Newcastle United Under-18s suffered a 5-3 defeat against their Derby County counterparts in the Under-18 Premier League North on Saturday afternoon.
The Toon teenagers conceded three times in the opening 45 minutes following strikes from Jayden Davidson, Farren Simons and Lennon Wheeldon at the Rams’ Moor Farm Training Centre.
Billy Gough extended County’s advantage shortly after the restart before Sean Neave pulled a goal back for the young Magpies, the teenager’s third goal of the season at under-18 level.
Derby regained their four-goal cushion after the hour mark following Wheeldon’s penalty before Newcastle’s youngsters halved the deficit in the closing stages courtesy of strikes from Joe Brayson, his first at under-18 level, and fellow substitute Darren Palmer.
Newcastle United Under-18s host Nottingham Forest in their upcoming Under-18 Premier League North on Saturday, 26th August, which will take place at the Magpies’ Little Benton Academy (kick-off 1.30pm BST).
