Matthew Taylor's stoppage-time strike sealed a thrilling 4-3 victory for Newcastle United Under-18s against their Liverpool counterparts in the Under-18 Premier League North on Tuesday evening.
The Toon Teenagers trailed inside 16 minutes at Whitley Park following Afolami Onanuga's opener before Josh Donaldson levelled the clash within the opening 60 seconds of the restart before the 18-year-old striker sent the hosts ahead before the hour mark.
Graeme Carrick's side found themselves on level terms following Trent Kone-Doherty's penalty before the young Magpies were reduced to ten men following Logan Watts' straight red card after a strong challenge on the Liverpool forward.
Despite Ollie O'Connor's header sending the Merseyside outfit ahead, Newcastle's youngsters swiftly equalised following Emmanuel Airoboma's own goal before completing an impressive comeback in the second minute of stoppage-time as Taylor, introduced from the substitutes' bench in the latter stages, struck a dramatic late winner.
Seventeen-year-old goalkeeper Aidan Harris, who was named on Newcastle's first-team bench for their UEFA Champions League draw away at AC Milan in September, produced a stunning save to ensure maximum points for the Magpies, brilliantly tipping Kyle Kelly's curling effort over the crossbar.
