Newcastle United Under-18s succumbed to a 2-1 home defeat against their Derby County counterparts in the Under-18 Premier League North on Saturday afternoon.
The Toon teenagers trailed inside ten minutes at the Magpies' Little Benton Academy following Johnson Osong's opener before 16-year-old forward Joe Brayson, who made his under-21s debut during an EFL Trophy clash against Crewe Alexandra in November, levelled the scoring towards the half-hour mark, the striker's fifth goal of the season at under-18 level so far this term.
United's youngsters, aiming to leapfrog the Rams in the division with a victory, found themselves behind six minutes after their equaliser courtesy of Justin Oguntolu's strike.
Graeme Carrick's side, who currently occupy sixth spot in the table, face an away trip to Manchester City in their upcoming Under-18 Premier League North fixture at the Joie Stadium on Wednesday, 21st February (kick-off 1pm GMT).
