Match officials confirmed ahead of Dortmund trip

Alejandro Hernández will referee Newcastle United's Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening.

Tuesday 7th November
Borussia Dortmund vs Newcastle United
Signal Iduna Park
Kick-off 5:45pm GMT/6:45pm CET

Spanish official Hernández has been selected for the fixture, which sees United attempt to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to the Bundesliga outfit on matchday three with a victory in Germany.

The 40-year-old is a vastly experienced referee who has been a fixture in LaLiga, the Spanish top flight, since 2012. In that time, Hernández has taken charge of 'El Clasico' encounters between Real Madrid and Barcelona, and is regarded as one of his country's finest officials.

Born in Arrecife in the Canary Islands, he has also been a FIFA-listed referee since 2014, meaning he is able to take charge of international fixtures. Hernández has done just that twice already this term in two EURO 2024 qualifiers, having overseen Italy's 2-1 win over Ukraine in September and Greece's 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands last month.
