Newcastle United Women defender Naomi Bedeau says that while the Magpies are pleased to have reached the semi-finals of the FA Women's National League Cup, it is now down to Becky Langley's team to continue pushing towards their targets this term

Newcastle bounced back from last weekend's 2-1 home defeat against Nottingham Forest Women on Sunday, beating AFC Fylde Women 4-1 away from home.

Bedeau is pleased with the resilience she and her teammates showed to get straight back to winning ways - but says they must now regain consistency as the Magpies strive for promotion from the FAWNL Northern Premier Division.

"I think we couldn't completely make up for losing that game (against Forest) but we could put stuff right in terms of making sure we won that game (against Fylde) and kick on and get more wins.

"It is important to win these kind of games in the cup because we want to push on and win as much as we can.

"It was definitely important to get the win in the cup and it was pleasing."

To reach the last four of a cup competition in her first season as a club is something Bedeau takes great pride in.

Having arrived on Tyneside along with several other new faces in the summer, the defender says it’s testament to the way the squad have gelled in United's first season as a full-time team.

"It's massive," she said. "It is not something that we expected to get to by any means. We are very proud that we were able to get to the semi-final of a cup.

"It was not expected for us to walk in and be able to get to that. We have worked really hard and we are happy that we have managed to get to this point but we have higher aspirations than to get to the semi-final so we have just got to keep pushing on.

"We have time to say okay, that's great, but we have to keep pushing on to the next."
