Sandro Tonali will start for Newcastle United in Barcelona as Eddie Howe makes five changes to his side for the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie (kick-off 5:45pm GMT).

Tonali - who missed the 1-0 Premier League win at Chelsea on Saturday through illness - trained with the rest of the United squad in the Spotify Camp Nou on Tuesday evening and has been deemed fit enough to start in Catalonia as Howe's men chase a place in the quarter-finals.

Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn will also line-up against the five-time winners of the competition, with Joelinton and Anthony Elanga also restored to the side.

Aaron Ramsdale keeps his place in goal, with Lewis Hall, Malick Thiaw, Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Ramsey all retaining their spots after the victory at Stamford Bridge.

That means Tino Livramento, Sven Botman, Joe Willock, Jacob Murphy and Nick Woltemade all revert to the bench for the all-important clash with Hansi Flick's charges.

Yoane Wissa, Will Osula and Sean Neave are the other attacking reinforcements among the substitutes, while Alex Murphy is also named.

And there are three goalkeepers on the bench too, in the shape of Nick Pope, John Ruddy and Aidan Harris.
