News. Loan watch: United trio feature as Killie go sixth

13 Feb 17

Kille drew 1-1 at Dundee’s Dens Park, with Kris Boyd’s early opener cancelled out by Kevin Holt.

Another United loanee, Callum Roberts, entered the fray as an 89th-minute substitute.

Elsewhere, Tim Krul made just his second appearance of the season as AZ Alkmaar won 2-1 at Heerenveen in the Eredivisie.

AZ now sit fourth in the table, though they are still some way short of the division’s pacesetters, including PSV Eindhoven – for whom Siem de Jong did not feature at the weekend.

PSV beat Utrecht 3-0 at the Philips Stadion, with de Jong’s brother Luuk among the goalscorers.

In Spain, Emanuel Riviere started and finished Osasuna’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid – Los Rojillos still rooted to the foot of La Liga.

Florian Thauvin also came out on the losing side at the weekend, replacing former Magpie Remy Cabella in Marseille’s 3-2 loss to Nantes.

It was a happier afternoon for Henri Saivet, though, who helped Saint-Etienne to a thumping win over Lorient at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

In Switzerland, Kevin Mbabu took to the pitch in the 73rd minute as Young Boys suffered a 4-1 defeat at Luzern.

Closer to home, not one of the four United players currently on loan at EFL clubs tasted victory.

Macaulay Gillesphey was the only of the quartet to start, playing all 90 minutes as out-of-form Carlisle United were beaten 4-1 by Blackpool at Brunton Park.

A division above, Ivan Toney played the final half-hour of Scunthorpe United’s shock defeat to Shrewsbury Town, while Alex Gilliead didn’t get off the bench for Bradford City, who drew 1-1 at Bristol Rovers.

In the Championship, Adam Armstrong came on midway through the second half as Barnsley held high-flying Reading to a goalless draw at the Madejski Stadium.

Finally, Blyth Spartans’ remarkable run continued with a 5-1 win over Hednesford Town at Croft Park. Paul Woolston was involved from the outset for Spartans, who are now 20 points clear at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.
