Bobby Madley will referee Newcastle United's Carabao Cup second round tie with West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night.

The Magpies entertain the Sky Bet Championship side at St. James' Park (kick-off 7.45pm BST) in what will be Matthias Jaissle's first taste of the competition United won in 2025.

And Madley has been appointed for the game against the Baggies, who arrive on Tyneside for the first time since December 2020 when they were a Premier League side.

The 40-year-old refereed in the EFL between 2010 and 2013 before being promoted to the Select Group of officials after refereeing his first Premier League game between Southampton and the Baggies in April 2013.

The Wakefield-born whistler spent five years as a top flight referee before quitting in 2018 and moving to Norway. After two years away, he returned to English football before taking charge of his first top flight game in four years in 2022.

Now predominantly a Championship referee, Madley was in the middle for 22 games across the second tier, Carabao Cup, League One and League Two last term.
