The Toon teenagers conceded twice in the space of four first-half minutes at the Magpies' Little Benton Academy, with Joshua Abe breaking the deadlock for the Reds before Joshua Sonnie Lambie doubled the visitors' advantage before the half-hour mark of the Group B clash.
Thomas Old halved the deficit in the closing stages after volleying the ball home from Henry Johnson's knockdown, following Sammy Pinnington's inviting free-kick, before Liverpool were reduced to ten men in stoppage-time after Hayden Holmes received two bookable offences.
Chris Moore's side were unfortunate not to level in the dying stages as 17-year-old winger Matheos Ferreira, who signed his first professional contract with his boyhood club last summer, saw a shot saved after dangerously cutting inside from the left flank.
