Newcastle United Women can confirm the signing of goalkeeper Anna Tamminen following her departure from Hammarby IF.

The Finland international joins having spent the last four years with the Damallsvenskan side.

Anna made 116 appearances for Hammarby and in the 2023 season helped them to win the league and cup double, while also claiming the Goalkeeper of the Year and Most Valuable Player of the Year awards.

Prior to that she spent time with Aland United in Finland, again winning a league and cup double, as well a spell in Sweden with Hovas Billdall IF. Her career started at NiceFutis in her home country.

The 30-year-old has made 11 appearances for Finland, and most recently was called up to the squad for the UEFA Women's Euros in Switzerland.

On making the move to the North East, Anna said: "It's super exciting. When I heard about the project, I just felt like I wanted to be part of it.

"The ambitions that the club have is amazing. When you get the chance to experience something like this, you take it."

Manager Becky Langley said: "Anna is a proven goalkeeper who has performed on the international stage and in the Champions League.

"She has the ability to build up play from the back, break lines and create opportunities. Anna fits the profile of goalkeeper that we have been looking for."

This signing is subject to FA and international clearance.
