Anthony Gordon and Anthony Elanga will both return to the starting line-up for Newcastle United's Champions League opener against Barcelona on Thursday night (kick-off 8pm BST).

The Spanish giants are the opposition at St. James' Park for the Magpies' return to Europe's top table, and head coach Eddie Howe has opted to make two changes from the side that beat Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday.

Gordon - who is currently serving a suspension in domestic competition - and Elanga are in from the start for the clash with Hansi Flick's LaLiga champions, with record signing Nick Woltemade and winger Jacob Murphy making way.

Nick Pope is in goal, with Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schär, Dan Burn and Tino Livramento lining up in defence.

In midfield, Sandro Tonali anchors the side with Joelinton and captain Bruno Guimarães either side of the Italian playmaker.

And further forward, Gordon and Elanga join Harvey Barnes as United look to make it another memorable European night under the lights.

Woltemade and Murphy are among the substitutes, along with another forward in Will Osula.

There are midfield reinforcements in the shape of Lewis Miley and Joe Willock while there is plenty of defensive backup too, with Emil Krafth, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman and Lewis Hall all named.

Goalkeeping duo Aaron Ramsdale and Max Thompson complete the list of substitutes available to Howe.

Substitutes: Aaron Ramsdale, Max Thompson, Lewis Hall, Sven Botman, Malick Thiaw, Emil Krafth, Will Osula, Jacob Murphy, Nick Woltemade, Joe Willock, Alex Murphy, Lewis Miley.
