Newcastle United's Under-9s won the 2026 Black and White Cup at the Magpies' Little Benton Academy last weekend.

Newcastle's youngsters opened the two-day invitational tournament with a 1-0 win against Scottish outfit Rangers and, after a 3-1 triumph over Ipswich Town, ended Saturday with three victories from three after a 4-1 victory against Aberdeen.

On Sunday, United's under-9s advanced into the final after finishing in second place of the six-team group on ten points.

After a goalless draw against table toppers Everton, Newcastle suffered a 1-0 loss against Portuguese side Braga but prevailed in the final against their Toffees counterparts following a 2-1 win, with the trophy and medals handed out by Newcastle United Academy Director Steve Harper.

Gary Ives, Newcastle United's Under-9/10 Lead Phase Coach, said: "I'm incredibly proud of the boys for winning this year's Black and White Cup. The way they carried themselves on and off the pitch all weekend was outstanding and seeing them finish as winners is a great reflection of the effort and attitude that make them such a credit to the club.

"A huge thank you goes to all the teams that took part. The standard of football was excellent, and every team helped create a brilliant environment for the players to enjoy and express themselves. I'd also like to recognise the operations staff and everyone involved behind the scenes for delivering another outstanding tournament and making it such a positive experience for the children and their families.

"Events like this are so important for our youngest Academy players. They get to test themselves, learn new things and build confidence in a setting that's both challenging and fun. Experiences like these are a huge part of their development as they move through the Academy."
