Newcastle United were in total control against the ten men of Burnley, running out 2-1 winners at St. James' Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies made it 10 points from a possible 12 since the international break, bouncing back from a frustrating draw with Tottenham Hotspur in midweek.

United skipper Bruno Guimarães scored directly from a corner shortly after the half-hour mark, before Burnley defender Lucas Pires was shown a straight red card for bringing Anthony Elanga down in front of the Leazes End.

Anthony Gordon doubled the home side's lead in the final moments of the first period, scoring a penalty following a Lesley Ugochukwu handball.

Malick Thiaw enjoyed yet another solid showing at the back, while Anthony Elanga also showed promise in attack, threatening down the right channel.
