She became the club's first signing of that summer, having spent the previous two seasons on the south coast where she made 41 appearances, scoring two goals. Ahead of the 2024/25 season, Purfield was named as captain for the Saints.

The defender brought with her a wealth of experience from across the Barclays Women's Super League and the WSL2, having appeared in the top tier for Leicester City, Bristol City, Liverpool and Doncaster Rovers Belles.

After a season with Durham in the inaugural WSL2 season in 2014, Purfield moved to America to continue her development in the college system. She played for South Alabama Jaguars, where she won Player of the Year in 2016, before moving to Arizona State Sun Devils.
