Back in Tyne: Five memorable victories against Norwich

Ahead of Newcastle United's Premier League clash with Norwich City on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.30pm GMT), we take a look at the Magpies' best wins against the Canaries at St. James' Park...

Gayle's hat-trick in seven-goal thriller (2016/2017)

Newcastle United fought back from 3-1 down to seal a 4-3 victory against Norwich, with the Magpies netting twice in stoppage time during a pulsating Championship meeting.

Dwight Gayle scored a hat-trick, with his third goal arriving in the sixth minute of added time after Frenchman Yoan Gouffran equalised for the Magpies just one minute earlier.

Despite Gayle's opener in front of the Gallowgate End, goals from Graham Dorrans, Cameron Jerome and Jacob Murphy, who would join Newcastle the following summer, had given United a mountain to climb with 20 minutes remaining.

However, a dramatic ending unfolded as Gayle cut the deficit before a stunning fightback was completed in the dying stages to the sheer delight of the Newcastle supporters.

Gini in a bottle as Norwich hit for six (2015/2016)

Gini Wijnaldum scored four goals as Newcastle thrashed Norwich 6-2 to pick up their first win of their 2015/16 Premier League campaign.

A manic first-half saw five goals scored in the space of 20 minutes, with Wijnaldum netting twice along with Ayoze Pérez's second goal in as many home games as well as forwards Dieumerci Mbokani and Nathan Redmond scoring for the visitors.

Aleksandar Mitrović restored United's two-goal advantage with the Serbian's first goal at St. James' Park before Wijnaldum notched his third goal two minutes later.

The Dutchman then became only the second Newcastle player to score four or more goals in the Premier League after Alan Shearer after netting an impressive fourth in front of the Leazes End.

Remy and Gouffran seal third successive league win (2013/14)

Following impressive victories against Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle made it three Premier League wins in a row after beating Norwich 2-1 on Tyneside.

Alan Pardew's side got off to a dream start as Loïc Rémy - signed on loan from QPR in the summer transfer window - scored his seventh goal in seven matches after just two minutes.

Yoan Gouffran doubled United's lead after stabbing home a second after Shola Ameobi's header was parried by Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy.

Norwich midfielder Leroy Fer set up a grandstand finish with a late header but Newcastle held on for three points, moving into eighth place.

Cissé's winner continues push for Europe (2011/12)

A moment of brilliance from Papiss Cissé was the difference as Newcastle defeated Norwich 1-0 in March to keep their hopes of European qualification alive.

Following an inviting cross from Jonás Gutiérrez, the Senegalese forward - who joined from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg in January - turned the ball into the net with the outside of his boot.

It was beginning of an impressive goalscoring run for Cissé as the striker scored in six consecutive games, scoring nine times as the Magpies finished their 2011/12 campaign in fifth place, qualifying for the Europa League.

Lee, Cole and Beardsley shine for Premier League debutants (1993/94)

Rob Lee, Andy Cole and Peter Beardsley were all on target as Kevin Keegan's side clinched their sixth league win in a row following a comfortable 3-0 win against Norwich in March 1994.

The Magpies were enjoying a winning run of five matches ahead of their clash with the Canaries, scoring 18 goals in total.

Cole opened the scoring with his 22nd league goal of the season in the first half before Lee netted his fifth goal in four games to double Newcastle's advantage.

Beardsley added a third - his 19th in all competitions - to seal a resounding victory, with United finishing in third place to mark an impressive debut in the top-flight.
