In pictures: Hayden equaliser Brightons up day for travelling fans

Newcastle United went into Saturday's game at Brighton & Hove Albion bottom of the Premier League, but gained a valuable point at the Amex Stadium.

Backed by 3,100 travelling fans, many of whom made a 700-mile round-trip, the Magpies fell behind to Leandro Trossard's penalty in the first half and looked set to go into the upcoming international break propping up the rest of the table.

But the Magpies were much improved after the break and Isaac Hayden equalised before United pushed for a winner. It almost came when Callum Wilson raced onto Joelinton's pass and took the ball past goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, but the Seagulls' shot-stopper brought down Newcastle's number nine to earn a red card after a VAR check from referee David Coote.

With the home side having made all three substitutions, defender Lewis Dunk had to go in goal for the closing stages, but while United failed to find a winner, they came away with a draw which could prove to be crucial in May. Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery from the south coast.
