Toon in training: Preparing for Palace

Steve Bruce's two-year reign as Newcastle United's head coach came to an end on Wednesday morning, with the 60-year-old leaving St. James' Park by mutual consent.

But, after being informed of the news in person by Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, the players continued to prepare for Saturday's Premier League trip to Crystal Palace under the guidance of Graeme Jones - who will lead the team on an interim basis - and fellow coaches Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence, Ben Dawson and Simon Smith.

Allan Saint-Maximin paid tribute on social media to Bruce, saying it had been "an honour and a privilege to have you as a coach," but the Frenchman and his team-mates know they have to get their first win of the season sooner rather than later - hopefully at Selhurst Park this weekend.

Martin Dúbravka continues to train as he looks to prove his fitness having recovered from the injury which has sidelined him so far this season, while Paul Dummett was also back out on the grass, albeit separately to the rest of the group. Jonjo Shelvey will miss the Palace game due to suspension after his red card against Tottenham, but trained with the team as he aims to build up fitness after sitting out most of the current campaign with calf problems.
