Gillett to referee Magpies' FA Cup tie at Blackburn

Jarred Gillett will referee Newcastle United's FA Cup fifth round tie at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.

Tuesday 27th February
Blackburn Rovers vs Newcastle United
Ewood Park
Kick-off 7:45pm GMT

United head to Lancashire looking to book their place in the quarter-finals, with only John Eustace's Championship side standing in their way of a place in the last eight of the competition.

And Australian official Gillett has been appointed for the fixture at Ewood Park as the Magpies take on a team who currently sit 16th in the second tier.

The 37-year-old has already refereed two games involving Eddie Howe's side so far this term, and both have come in the domestic cup competitions. He was the man in the middle for Newcastle's penalty shoot-out defeat at Chelsea in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in December, in which he booked Bruno Guimarães and Callum Wilson, while he also took charge of United's 2-0 FA Cup fourth round win at Fulham last month, when Fabian Schär was the only recipient of a yellow card.

Having made the move to the EFL from the Australian top flight in 2019, Gillett became a Premier League official in 2021, with his first game coming in a 1-1 draw between Watford and the Magpies. He became a FIFA-listed referee in 2023, and has overseen games in the Europa Conference League this season.

2023/24 stats
