I couldn't stop crying, admits Stobbs after St. James' semi-final

Stobbs had already led United out at St. James' Park during the Sela Cup in pre-season, but to do so in a competitive game with a cup final spot on the line certainly made it sweeter for the lifelong supporter.

Their hard-fought win over Portsmouth Women means United have now won four consecutive competitive matches at St. James' Park, with each game attracting over 20,000 fans, and Stobbs admitted it was a memorable weekend.

"It was an unbelievable day," Stobbs admitted after the dramatic semi-final success. "To share it with our fans, the club, the staff and this group of players, the ones who were out injured and the ones who didn't get on; everyone was so together and was such a great feeling."

Emotions were high at the beginning of the game when the Lasses were greeted by a wall of noise and a display from Wor Flags all around the ground.

"I couldn't stop crying," Stobbs explained when asked how she felt walking leading the team out against Portsmouth. “It was just an emotional moment - to play at St. James' Park was a dream.

"To play in front of all those Geordies, it got the better of me just before kick-off and thankfully I was able to compose myself."

Besides the occasion, it was a huge game for United who stole victory right at the death when Georgia Gibson headed home a 90th-minute winner in front of the Gallowgate End - something Stobbs revealed she predicted pre-match.

"I said to her, I can't wait for you to score. I just said, G, I know you're going to score.

"Then when she did I was so happy for her. She's been class for us all season and I'm still getting goosebumps thinking of her heading in. All the goalscorers were Geordies, which is proper mint."

United now have a date with Hashtag United Women on Women's Football Weekend at Kenilworth Road, with the final set to take place on a date to be confirmed next month.
