Garang Kuol will make his first start for Newcastle United in Friday's post-season friendly against the A-League All Stars in Melbourne (kick-off 5.05pm AEST).

The Australia international made his United debut in Wednesday's friendly against Tottenham Hotspur in front of over 78,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and the Socceroos forward has been handed his full United bow against a side he featured for in 2022 against European giants Barcelona.

Goalkeeper Mark Gillespie, the penalty shoot-out hero against Spurs 48 hours ago, starts in-between the sticks as captain at the Marvel Stadium while head coach Eddie Howe has assembled an otherwise youthful starting XI.

Teenage duo Alex Murphy and Ciaran Thompson, both products of United's Academy, are likely to feature at the heart of the Magpies' backline while the latter, who hails from Blyth, makes his full senior bow for his boyhood club this evening.

Harrison Ashby, who spent the duration of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Swansea City, and 17-year-old Dylan Charlton, set to make his full senior debut, will occupy the defensive flanks.

Travis Hernes, who joined the Magpies' youth set-up from Shrewsbury Town in September 2023, is another to make his first Newcastle start this evening while Joe White and Jay Turner-Cooke, who spent the first-half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Crewe Alexandra and St Johnstone respectively, will likely feature in the middle of the park.

Durham-born forward Ben Parkinson, who made his Premier League debut for his boyhood club away at AFC Bournemouth, and Amadou Diallo, an English top-flight debutant during Newcastle's 4-1 win against Chelsea in November 2023, also make their first starts for the Magpies at senior level and will aim to provide attacking support for Kuol.

Howe has a trio of established first-team players to deploy from the substitutes' bench if needed, including England international Kieran Trippier, Elliot Anderson and Lewis Hall.

Teenage midfielder Ellis Stanton, who joined the Magpies' Academy at the age of eight, is named in a senior matchday squad for the first time and could make his senior debut this evening along with 17-year-old goalkeeper Aidan Harris.

Lucas De Bolle, who featured in the latter stages of United's 1-1 draw against Spurs on Wednesday, has also been named on the bench.

Newcastle United: Mark Gillespie (c), Harrison Ashby, Ciaran Thompson, Alex Murphy, Dylan Charlton, Travis Hernes, Joe White, Jay Turner-Cooke, Ben Parkinson, Amadou Diallo, Garang Kuol.

Substitutes: Aidan Harris, Kieran Trippier, Lewis Hall, Lucas De Bolle, Ellis Stanton, Elliot Anderson.
