The Toon teenagers, targeting a third consecutive win in all competitions after respective league wins against Derby County and Stoke City, fell behind in their opening Group F fixture at Motspur Park following Tarrell Cavell's strike.
Midfielder Sam Alabi, who signed his first professional contract with the Magpies on his 17th birthday, rescued a point for the visitors after the England U17 international got his name on the scoresheet in the 71st minute.
United's youngsters host Derby in their next Premier League Cup game on Saturday 10 October (kick-off 1pm BST), before welcoming Tottenham Hotspur to Tyneside, with their final group fixture taking place on Saturday 7 November (kick-off 11am GMT).
Both games will take place at the Magpies' Little Benton Academy.
Chris Moore's side resume their Under-18 Premier League North campaign on Saturday 29 August when facing a home clash against Blackburn Rovers (kick-off 12:30pm BST), aiming to continue their 100 per cent winning start in the division.
