United are gearing up to face last season's second-placed team, Birmingham City Women, who, like Newcastle, sit on four points in WSL2, although they do boast a better goal difference.

Langley offered some positive news on the availability of both Jordan Nobbs, who's yet to feature in black and while, and fellow summer arrival Morgan Gautrat.

The manager also paid tribute to outgoing Head of Women's Football, Su Cumming, who will be retiring at the end of September.

Here are some of the boss' main talking points from her pre-match media briefing on Friday afternoon…

On bouncing back from the home draw last week…

"It was a disappointing game against Sheffield United, but the game's gone and we're looking forward positively.

"In training this week, there has been a good level of intensity. The girls are all professionals, and they know they need to put it right this weekend against Birmingham.

"I'm hoping to see some front-foot pressing from the off and immediate reactions to win the ball back. I'm looking for us to be a bit braver and find those line-breaking passes earlier."

On the return of Jordan Nobbs and Morgan Gautrat…

"We've got Jordan and Morgan back, which is a huge boost for the team, so they're two people who will be coming into the squad, and we're really excited to have them back in the mix."

On what she's expecting from Birmingham…

"Birmingham have some great players, and Amy (Merricks) is a very thoughtful planner and a good coach on the pitch, and I know she'll have her team well-structured and organised.

"Birmingham have made some good signings, players who have played in the WSL (Women's Super League) and beyond."

On Su Cumming's retirement…

"Su has been absolutely fantastic for the football club and brilliant for me personally. She's been a huge ally for me, and she's given me such great leadership advice. She's a very caring and warm character and loves the football club and wants the women's team to progress to the WSL.

"She's done absolutely everything in her power to professionalise the women's team to gain part-time contracts for players, to then get full-time contracts for players.

"She first started as a volunteer, and she's been unbelievable in terms of everything she's done, not just for the club, but for me personally. I wouldn't be in this position without Su, and I am humbled to call her a friend, as well as a colleague and a boss."
