Sean Neave admitted he is "buzzing" for Newcastle United Under-19s' UEFA Youth League clash against FC Barcelona on Thursday afternoon (kick-off 3pm BST).

The Toon teenagers, who featured in the competition two seasons ago, welcome the defending champions to Whitley Park in their first of six parallel fixtures in the Youth League league phase, in contrast to the eight matches contested in the UEFA Champions League.

Neave is aiming to build on the experiences gained during the 2023/24 campaign, which saw the England Under-18 international score the club's first ever goal in the UEFA Youth League in a 2-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in October 2023.

The Winlaton-born striker told newcastleunited.com: "Everyone is buzzing for it. Barcelona is a big team so it will be a tough challenge for us but also a good opportunity to perform against them. Hopefully, we can get a positive result.

"These are definitely the top games to play in. I remember playing in the Youth League two seasons ago when I was 16 and it was a difficult test playing up a few age groups. Now, I'm one of the older ones so I hope to perform well and keep my goalscoring record up.

"We played against AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain (during the 2023/24 season) so you have more of an idea in what type of challenges to expect. Hopefully, I can use that experience heading into Thursday's game."

Neave, who made his first-team debut for Eddie Howe's side during a pre-season friendly against Celtic FC last summer, has made a bright start to the 2025/26 season after scoring four goals in his opening five matches at under-21 level.

The teenage forward, who signed his first professional contract for his boyhood club in July 2024, believes his maiden outings at senior level have contributed towards the promising youngster's positive form in front of goal.

He added: "I've been really pleased with the way I've started this season. I wanted to get a good start and see what happens from there, especially after playing for the first-team in pre-season.

"I feel my first-team debut has given me a lot of confidence coming into a new season with the under-21s, scoring four goals and getting some assists too. Hopefully, I can carry that on throughout the season.

"Last year, I was 18 playing up with the under-21s so I was a little more nervous going into games. I'm now a first-year pro and I feel a lot more confident, knowing I can perform well. With the first-team involvement, and having that taste of what it's like, that has given me a massive boost when playing for the under-21s."

Admission for Newcastle United Under-19s' UEFA Youth League clash against FC Barcelona at Whitley Park on Thursday, 18th September is priced at £5 for adults and £2 for under-18s.
