Newcastle United continued the form they ended 2025 in, by securing all three points in their first game of 2026, taking a 2-0 victory at home against Crystal Palace.

Not deterred by a first-half goal being ruled out by VAR, Newcastle turned on the style just past the 70th minute, as club captain Bruno Guimarães opened the scoring in the 71st minute.

Shortly after, Malick Thiaw joined in the scoring after a corner in the 78th minute.

Lewis Miley proved to be crucial providing an assist on the opening goal of the game, while Fabian Schär was key with his distribution as usual, and his solid defensive work in his 250th game in all competitions for the team.
