The Cherries are the visitors to St. James' Park for the Magpies' third league outing of the campaign, with 39-year-old Jones appointed to oversee his second top flight match of the season so far.

He was in the middle for Leeds United's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest on the opening day, dishing out three yellow cards - the same number of cautions he issued in Birmingham City's 2-1 win at Wrexham in the Championship the following week.

Merseyside-born Jones began refereeing in the EFL in 2016 and three years later moved up to Premier League level. He has been a top flight fixture since then, and was promoted to FIFA's list of officials in 2023, meaning he is among those who take charge of international games as well as in domestic competitions.

Last term, Jones refereed in a host of different competitions. As well as the Premier League, he oversaw matches in the Championship, Carabao Cup, Champions League and Conference League. He was also tasked with keeping order in an international friendly and, at the start of the season, two J1 League games in Japan.

In the entire 2025/26 campaign, he didn't issue a single red card.
