Newcastle United defender Sven Botman has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

The 26-year-old, who moved to St. James’ Park from French side Lille in 2022, has extended his stay with the Magpies until summer 2030.

Sven has featured 17 times in all competitions so far this season, with Saturday’s FA Cup victory over AFC Bournemouth taking his tally to 93 appearances for the club.

Sven said: “I’m really happy to sign this contract. This club has given me so much in the last three-and-a-half years.

“I’ve grown as a person and as a player here and I feel like I have so much more to give in the long term. That’s why both parties are really happy with this decision and I’m looking forward to what’s coming in the future here.”

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe added: “We’re delighted that Sven has committed his long-term future to the club. He has been an outstanding player for us since he joined and I firmly believe there’s more to come from him.

“Sven has a strong mentality and work ethic, which is clear every time he trains or plays. We value his presence on and off the pitch and l’m really pleased to see his long-term future secured here.”

Newcastle United Sporting Director Ross Wilson said: “Sven is not only an important player on the pitch, but also a top professional and a hugely respected member of our squad.

“With Sven’s previous contract due to expire at the end of next season, it’s fantastic that we’ve secured his future here. I know Eddie and the players are equally thrilled.

“Sven feels settled in Newcastle, both in the city and within our squad, and we’re all excited to continue with him in our ranks.”
