Jacob Murphy is the sole change to Newcastle United's starting 11 ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium [kick-off 2pm GMT].

The Magpies go in search of their first Premier League away win of the 2025/26 season when facing Keith Andrews' Bees and Howe has opted for a solitary change to the side which claimed a 2-0 win against Athletic Club in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League clash at St. James' Park, with Murphy replacing the injured Anthony Gordon.

Nick Pope retains his place in-between the sticks as the Magpies goalkeeper is placed behind a four-man defence, with Kieran Trippier, Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman and Dan Burn forming the defensive line.

Sandro Tonali, who has netted three times in his last two appearances against Brentford, is in midfield alongside Joelinton and Magpies captain Bruno Guimarães, who has recorded six goal involvements in his last seven outings against the Bees, including three goals.

Harvey Barnes, aiming to score in a three consecutive trips to Brentford, and Murphy will aim to provide attacking support for Nick Woltemade, with the German striker aiming to add to his four Premier League goals so far this season.

Howe has a selection of options to deploy from the bench if required, including summer signings Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey, both of whom target a first Magpies goal, as well as teenage midfielder Lewis Miley and Joe Willock, on target in Newcastle's 2-0 away win at Brentford during the 2021/22 campaign.

Fabian Schär, who scored in Newcastle's 3-1 Carabao Cup win against Brentford last term, is also named as a substitute along with defensive trio Lewis Hall, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth.

Aaron Ramsdale is the substitute goalkeeper.
