Fabian Schär makes his first Premier League start since mid-September as he comes into Newcastle United's starting XI to face Manchester City.

The 33-year-old replaces Sven Botman while Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall are also handed recalls. Livramento's last game was against Arsenal in September, when he suffered a knee injury, while Hall hasn't started in the league since the draw at AFC Bournemouth, also in September.

Hall slots in for the suspended Dan Burn, who serves a one-match ban following his red card against Brentford two weeks ago, while Livramento is in for Kieran Trippier, who isn't in the squad.

Neither is Anthony Gordon, who scored in this fixture for the past two seasons. The England international was described by Eddie Howe as being "very close" to featuring after a hip injury kept him out at Brentford.

With William Osula and Yoane Wissa also sidelined, teenager Sean Neave is among the substitutes while Howe names two goalkeepers - Aaron Ramsdale and John Ruddy - on the bench.
