The midfielder was presented on the pitch before Newcastle United's 3-2 win over West Brom on Wednesday evening, taking in the appreciation from the Geordie faithful.

González will wear the No.6 shirt on Tyneside and spoke of his joy after securing his move to the Magpies.

He said: "I’m really happy to be here at this amazing club. I’ve only heard top words about the club and the city, so I’m really excited to live here and to be part of this project."
