Targett is a defender who initially joined United on loan from Villa in the January 2022 transfer window.

After an impressive temporary stint at St. James' Park, he signed permanently in the summer of 2022, adding experience to the Magpies' ranks having made more than 100 top flight appearances for Southampton and Villa.

Born in Eastleigh in Hampshire, Targett began his career with the Saints, where he came through the club's academy system and made 63 outings in all competitions.

He spent time on loan at Fulham during the 2017/18 season as the Cottagers achieved promotion to the Premier League, before joining Villa in July 2019, where he clocked up almost a century of appearances prior to his move to Tyneside.
