Toon in training: Magpies bid to make history

"There's a long way to go," said Eddie Howe after Joelinton's goal handed Newcastle United a one-goal advantage in their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg clash at Southampton last week.

And the Magpies' head coach will have reiterated that message to his players on Friday as preparations continue for the all-important second leg against the Saints at St. James' Park on Tuesday night (8pm kick-off).

United face Nathan Jones' men under the lights in what could be a momentous occasion as the club look to make sure of their place in the showpiece Wembley final.

Howe's charges were put through their paces at Newcastle's Benton training base at the end of a week which saw them take a big step towards what would be their first major final in 24 years - but the job isn't done yet.

Club photographer Serena Taylor brought nufc.co.uk this gallery.
