Ramsey's excellent low finish at the Gallowgate End salvaged a draw and preserved Matthias Jaissle's unbeaten start as the Magpies' head coach at the end of what was a pulsating encounter at St. James' Park.

Magpies goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček saved Marcus Tavernier's low free kick from just outside the box with the first chance of the game, but just before the ten-minute mark the Cherries winger fired home, latching on to Alex Scott's deflected effort to stab in the opener.

United were aggrieved, feeling there was a foul on Anthony Elanga shortly before the goal, but they could have few complaints about the Cherries' second - an unfortunate own goal from Malick Thiaw, who deflected Alex Scott's cross into the net after Justin Kluivert's drive had come back off the upright.

But Harvey Barnes found the top right-hand corner in style before the break to give the hosts a foothold as they look to claw themselves back onto level terms, and with just a couple of minutes remaining at the end of the second period, substitute Ramsey swept home to draw Newcastle level and rescue a point.

Soon after Tavernier's early opener, Evanilson wasted an opportunity to make it 2-0 as he fired over when one-on-one with Horníček and Jaissle's side improved after, with Adam Smith turning a dangerous centre across the face of goal from Elanga.

But the Cherries - threatening on the break - again could have scored when Tavernier saw his weak effort from Adrien Truffert's lay-off held by Horníček. Kluivert, son of ex-Magpies frontman Patrick, saw his effort deflected wide as United became sloppy in their own half and the Dutchman had a hand in his team's second as his thumping strike cannoned back off both the post and Horníček, before Thiaw inadvertently turned Scott's cross into his own net.

Barnes' magnificent curling strike, lifted just beyond the reach of Đorđe Petrović after cutting inside from the left, gave Jaissle's men hope of a comeback going into the second half and shortly after the restart, a fine run from Yoane Wissa signalled United's intent. His cross from the right was flicked on by Elanga and Joe Willock's glancing header dropped agonisingly wide of the upright.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo, signed from Lille on Tuesday, was introduced for his Magpies debut just after the hour, with Ramsey also sent on by Jaissle in a bid to regain some of the impetus Bournemouth had managed to stifle.

But while the hosts struggled to carve out many further goalscoring opportunities against a stubborn Cherries backline, they found themselves level just moments before the end as Ramsey's unerring first-time finish flew into the bottom right-hand corner to pull United back onto level terms.
