Newcastle United have teamed up with Fantasy Football Scout to bring you Fantasy Premier League (FPL) hints, tips and advice throughout the 2026/27 season.
Scout will be offering their expertise every Gameweek, which could prove invaluable in helping you win your mini-leagues.
Best of Newcastle in Gameweek 4
While Newcastle’s five-match unbeaten run came to an end at Elland Road on Monday evening, there was a personal milestone for Bazoumana Toure (£5.8m) to celebrate.
The Ivorian winger notched his first-ever Premier League goal, turning in fellow substitute Tino Livramento’s (£4.9m) cross. That takes Toure up to two goals in all competitions for the campaign, following his strike in the EFL Cup second-round tie against West Bromwich Albion.
It’s an all-the-more impressive tally considering he’s had less than 90 minutes of accumulated game-time. He might see more action now, too, with fellow wide-man Anthony Elanga (£6.2m) an injury concern.
Elsewhere, there was a reminder of the importance of defensive contribution points in FPL.
If and when a defender loses their clean sheet, having defensive contributions to fall back on is a nice consolation.
Newcastle centre-halves Malick Thiaw (£5.0m) and Sven Botman (£5.0m) both passed the required threshold against Leeds United. Thiaw, Botman and Lewis Hall (£5.2m) have now all gained four defensive contribution points this season.
Spotlight on... Harvey Barnes
While the old adage of there being ‘no easy games in the Premier League’ holds true more than ever, Newcastle’s upcoming run is one of the more appealing.
According to the Fantasy Football Scout Fixture Ticker, which ranks each match by difficulty, the Magpies have the second-most-favourable schedule over the next six Gameweeks.
Now is a good time to invest in Newcastle players, then, and Harvey Barnes (£6.0m) is one of the stand-out picks. The winger delivered a 12-point haul in his last outing at St James’ Park, playing a part in both goals in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.
None of Barnes’ teammates can better his season totals of 13 penalty box touches and 38 passes received in the final third. In short, he’s receiving the ball in some dangerous positions.
Among Matthias Jaissle’s squad, only forward Yoane Wissa (£6.2m) can beat Barnes’ total of four shots in the box, too.
As well as a share of set plays, a reliability of pitch-time is another string to Barnes’ bow. He’s racked up more minutes (360) than any of the Magpies’ other midfielders and forwards.
FPL transfer market
Elsewhere in Fantasy Premier League, it’s an interesting week of transfer activity. Seven different clubs are represented in the top 10 most popular buys of Gameweek 5.
Yet to blank in the opening month of 2026/27, Morgan Rogers (£7.7m) looks poised to become the most-bought player for the second Gameweek running.
Fresh from double-digit hauls in Gameweek 4, Pascal Gross (£5.7m) and Maxim De Cuyper (£4.9m) are also among the top five for ‘transfers in’. However, with Brighton and Hove Albion entertaining unbeaten reigning champions Arsenal, this may not be a great entry point for the budget-friendly pair.
Instead, Morgan Gibbs-White (£8.0m) is perhaps more of a savvy buy. On penalties, averaging 6.5 points per match and with three attacking returns already in the bag, he now faces the league’s three leakiest defences for goals conceded - Coventry City, Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town - in the next four Gameweeks.
Joao Pedro (£7.8m) is the most-purchased forward of Gameweek 5 but is flagged as an injury doubt, having pulled out of the Brazil squad for the forthcoming internationals. Newcastle’s very own Yoane Wissa is among the stand-out replacement candidates for Pedro, should managers require one.
